Tuition

Our Mission Statement is:

'To educate each and every unique child in our care, to hear and respond to what God calls them to be'

Since September 2021, the school has received extra funding to spend on targeted academic support, delivered by trained and experienced tutors and mentors. In 2021-22 our school had to fund 25% of the total cost and we offered a range of tuition including NTP funded summer schools, academic mentors, online tuition partners and school-led tutoring:

NTP funded summer school (Regents Camps UK): 3-day tutoring programme for identified pupils in Years 7 and 8, during which pupils took part in 15 hours of engaging and educational tutoring sessions, spread equally between literacy and numeracy.

Academic Mentors (National Tutoring Programme): employed to work as in-school staff members to provide intensive support both in lessons and before and after school, to pupils who needed it.

Online Tuition Partners (Third Space Learning): external tutoring organisations, quality assured by the DfE who worked with pupils on a 1:1 basis supporting them with gaps in knowledge and skills in Mathematics.

School-Led Tutoring: the majority of our own teaching staff ran a range of different tuition sessions as we felt that they could most effectively respond to the needs of our pupils. Tuition was specially developed and personalised for the learning needs of individual pupils and was designed to support our pupils with their learning, prepare them for assessments and ensure that any gaps in pupils' knowledge and skills were addressed. Different children were invited to attend these extra tuition sessions throughout the school year. Attendance was compulsory because we believe these tuition sessions are vital to academic success.

We assess the effect of the expenditure on the educational attainment of our pupils by using pupil voice, tuition session drop-ins and assessment results.

This academic year (2022-23) will have to fund 40% of the total cost to top-up the money provided by the government and due to budget constraints, the tuition offer will be reduced. However, we plan to spend the funding on tuition to improve reading and literacy which is one of our whole school priorities.
